Like all of Northeast Ohio, The County Club of Hudson got roasted Tuesday by some of the hottest conditions of the year.

The fact numerous golfers put up scores just as sizzling shows the caliber of this year’s Hudson Junior Invitational field.

Given the conditions, perhaps it is fitting the boys’ first-round leader comes from Florida.

Junzhe Wang from IMG Academy in Bradendon, Fla. finished one stroke off the 18-hole tournament record set by PGA pro Ricky Fowler. His 7-under round of 65 included an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole.

Hudson’s Fauver brothers had solid first rounds. Ben Fauver is part of a trio three strokes behind at 4-under, while Sam Fauver finished at 1-under, along with defending champion Andrew Gochenouer of Dayton.

Walsh Jesuit’s Ryan Czenszak and Archbishop Hoban’s Chris Pollak are part of a trio sitting at 2-under.

In the girls field, the leaders come from opposite sides of the globe.

Worthington Kilbourne junior Isabella Anderson shot an even-par round of 72, tying her with Gracie Larsen, a Kent State University recruit from Australia.

Aurora senior Gracyn Vidovic sits one stroke behind after 1-over round of 73.

Round 2 Wednesday will tee off at 6:30 a.m.
