Just Playing Golf For Fun

By admin Jun27,2024

There are many times when I just want to head out to the golf course and hit a little white ball. I have no intention to improve my game, I just want to enjoy my time on the links. Take today for instance, I am heading to Osprey Links to play Senior’s day with my old crew. It is going to be a great time and I have not illusions about my score. Likely we will play a format where individual scores do not matter. And today, this approach will be an awesome thing because I just want to have fun and enjoy playing golf with my friends. There are many ways to enjoy your time on the links and I think I have used most of them over the years.

Interestingly, everyone I talked too over the years defines having fun in one way. Yup, apparently there is one sure fire method to ensure everyone enjoys their time on the links. I bet you are curious as to what it is? Well, let me tell you! Wait, nope that is not correct. The only way to have fun on the course is unique to each golfer. That is correct, each player defines what is fun for them. This approach is universally accepted as the only way to have fun golfing.

For me for instance, not keeping score is a great first step. By not keeping score I am able to step outside my normal way of playing and try different golf shots. I have tried hitting balls over benches instead of taking relief, I have tried a few shots where I ricochet my ball off an object with some success, I have climbed 20 foot rock at Osprey Links and it my ball on the green which lead to a par (see below) and I shot 13 golf balls in the water trying to hit an island green at Oyster Bay in Myrtle Beach. Needless to say, all of these shots were fun and I had a great time whether they were successful or not.

Sometimes I just want to play golf for fun. Depending on the day, I will try different things to have fun on the links. Fortunately, it is not always about hitting golf shots. Take today for instance, I am playing golf with my friends (as I mentioned earlier) and it will give us a chance to catch up and enjoy chatting, joking and poking fun at each other. The camaraderie is as important as the golf. In this case, golf is just a medium to have a great time today.

As you can see, golf offers many opportunities to enjoy my time on the links. It happens in many different fashions and this is a very good thing. Regardless of happens when I do play golf, I always try to remain a Grateful Golfer.

I am a Grateful Golfer! See you on the links!
