Having decided to try and adopt a baby, Cathy and Paul dive into learning more about the process that awaits them. Because of their multiple health issues, they soon discover that their chances to adopt are very slim. And even after making it clear that they are willing to take a less-than-perfect child into their lives, the Jamisons are disappointed when their lawyer confirms that they are unlikely to be chosen as parents. Meanwhile, Sean is surprised when the previous owner of his gay phone sex line wants his job back. And though Sean notes that he’s made the venture even more successful, Willy insists on camping out at the house for as long as it takes to reclaim what’s his. Following a stop at the Naked Turtle (where she’s known as a flight attendant named Alexis), Cathy heads to Dr. Sherman’s office to ask for a letter stating that she’s healthy enough to be a mother. But upon realizing that she and Paul are unlikely to ever be given the green light to adopt, Cathy surreptitiously steals some of her doctor’s letterhead in order to write the recommendation herself. Meanwhile, as Sean and Willy square off over control of the phone sex business, Jesse daringly challenges Adam to have faith that God is looking out for him. After Paul convinces Cathy to drop her plans to forge Dr. Sherman’s signature, Sean tags along when they go to another lecture being given by “joyologist” Joy Kleinman. When Joy singles him out to share his story of overcoming adversity, Paul’s popularity on the Internet skyrockets. And after stalking Sean to the lecture, Willy is inspired to drop his efforts to reclaim the phone sex business and pursue his dream of being a singer-songwriter. Finally, as Paul entertains an offer to join Joy’s organization, his latest blog post brings an offer from a family looking for someone to adopt their baby.
