What To Do When I Am Not Playing Strong Golf

There are times during my season when I feel I am not playing my best golf. This happened yesterday during a fun scramble I played in at Pine Grove Golf Course. It is my yearly event with some great friends (Bruce, Jack and Blair) where we have an opportunity to have fun and shoot well. Pine Grove is a fun course that is short, but have fantastic greens. It is an event look forward to playing each year. This year we finished third, one stroke behind the dual leaders. As with most teams, we felt we left many shots on the course that could have propelled us to the top of the leaderboard. Alas, we did not get there and the score did not diminish the great time I had with my playing partners.

During the round we started off slow. Our greatest challenge of the day was approach shots. We missed the green half the time by converted two of those misses by chipping in. The rest of the time we were not overly close to the pin to have a legit chance to make birdie. It was one of those days where my approach game was not as sharp as I expected. I did hit a couple of great shots, but that was about it.

We did have several highlights. Blair and Jack chipped in for birdie which helped lower our score. Bruce hit some clutch shots off the tee and around the green that led to easy pars. Jack was a putting lights out. His calm demeanour and smooth stroke ensured I only had to putt 4 times during the entire round. Blair was is consistent self in all areas. Everyone contributed to our score in one way or another. Overall, our play was okay by not as solid as the year before when we won this event. Regardless of the score, winning is not why the real reason I love this event each year.

On a side note, this is my favourite hole at Pine Grove Golf Course.

The reason I love playing this event is because of the friendship. We have a great time Jack is a super senior who is a fun to talk too. He is a true gentleman who provides a great deal of dry humour to our group. Bruce is a long time friend who is quick to smile and provide lots of levity to our group. Blair and I are long time friends and he also is easy to chat with and enjoys a great laugh. During our 5 hours on the course, we laugh, joke, poke fun, encourage and support each other during every shot. Our group for this event really demonstrates that golf is a contact sport!

Our group has already decided we will play in this event next year. Of course many things can happen between now and then, but I have marked the timings in my calendar in ink!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
