Taking Time Off From Golf

Every season, albeit as short time, I take some time off to recharge and prepare for the final push of golf before my long winter’s nap. This year, I just finished 10 days away from playing to enjoy some time with my family. It is a yearly tradition and one I really enjoy. But now it is time go get back into the swing of things and to sharpen my game before some upcoming tournaments. The question is how and how much time do I dedicate to my game and still enjoy doing other things with my darling wife. Well, that is easy or at least I think it is.

The first step is in getting back into the action of to actually head to the golf course. One challenge I faced in the past was to find excuses not to play. I know this sounds strange, but it happens. Not this time as I have a tournament is a couple of weeks and I need to sharpen my game. I have decided that tomorrow will be the day that I hit the links and just play a fun relaxing round of golf.

The next thing is to not try to start too fast. What I mean is that I must not try to hit difficult shots at first. This early stages of playing in mid season is much like the beginning of the year; enjoy my time and regain my golf swing. I know it will not take long, but rushing things will lead to other challenges I can easily avoid. Mostly, for the first round, I need to swing my clubs with intent to hit the ball well without worrying about score. It is simple and yet a challenge.

Lastly, I need to mentally play golf with intent. Yes I want to go out and have fun and relax, but I still need to focus on playing well. I need to work on making solid contact on and off the green. I need to think about course management and leave myself an easier next shot. I need to ensure I am selecting the proper club for each shot. I need to….I think you get the point. I need to start engaging my golf brain again as one of the first steps to playing great golf down the stretch of my golf season.

With only two months left to play golf, I want to maximize my success and finish my season strong. As in previous years, I will be playing less as the mid and end October rolls in, so now is the time to play more golf. I am looking forward to hitting the links tomorrow and see what my time on the links brings.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
