A Perfect Golf Swing Is Impossible To Attain

By admin Aug29,2024

If you have played golf for any length of time, making a perfect golf swing is impossible. Science tells us that there is such a swing, but as an amateur player I have given up all hope that I will ever achieve perfect harmony in every aspects of my golf swing. I will admit from time to time I can hit the ball very well, but perfection I will leave to players with far greater skill than I. This does not mean I will stop trying to improve my game, but it does mean that I understand my limitations and try to maximize my efforts to improve. Once I stop trying to improve my golf game or other aspects of my life, then it might be time to move on to other things. Let me explain.

My golf game is built on a strong foundation of smaller steps. There is a big picture on how I want to play, but that overall success (or failure some days) is rooted in a whole bunch of skills I have developed over the years. When chipping the ball, for instance, I understand where I must stand in relation to the ball if I am hitting an uphill lie. When driving the ball, I need to try and hit with an ascending strike which is opposite of my irons. When putting, my grip needs to soft, but firm and I need to follow through. These and millions more little things make up my golf game. To be able to control everyone during every swing is impossible. Wait, there is hope though, do not despair!

Each of us has the ability to maximize our abilities to create our perfect golf swing. Physically, I am not as flexible or strong as I was 20 years ago, yet I still shoot around the same scores. From time to time, I will record an awesome sub par round as a result of maximizing my abilities on that day. The rest of the time I golf, it is about managing the skills that show up; it seems confusing, however like in life, golf is series of events that need to be managed. How I react to those challenges will determine my overall success of any given day.

Intent to change is the key component that many amateur golfers overlook when trying to improve their golf game.

The intent to change is a powerful tool that transcends golf, but is the foundation of improvement. The process is very similar because the key foundation building block of intent is the starting point for all journeys. By keeping the intent and ultimately the end result in mind during all adjustments allows many players to step outside of their comfort zone and beat down the frustration of making a change. Golf, like in life, I believe that intent is a core component to improving. If my intent to change is mixed with a positive attitude, then I feel I have a better than not chance of improving my golf game. This approach has helped over the years and continues to guide my golf journey today.

I know I make many mistakes each time I play golf. They are mitigated by the fact that I usually intend other results and as such focus on making my next shot better. Rarely will I consider a shot perfect, but when I do I feel a great deal of satisfaction with myself for achieving what I intend. I am not sure if my diatribe makes sense today, but my intent to shed light on how we can improve our golf game by embracing the intent to change. Let me know what you think.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
