Having Fun Trying A Unique Hickory Golf Club

By admin Sep27,2024

As my golfing world expands due to hickory sticks, I am learning how much I do not know. I am taking my lack of knowledge as an opportunity to learn new things and to embrace different experiences. Of course there is a bit of frustration along this path, but the fun and enjoyment of learning and succeeding in new endeavours outweighs any negative aspects of my new golfing path. Having said that, I had an opportunity to try an unique hickory club design by BTI club makers. It was quite a bit of fun and offered something new to think about with respect to my game.

Ben Plaunt, who won the 2024 Open Ontario Hickory Championship earlier in the week, is also a club designed and maker. After our first round, he asked if I would like to try a new putter. Always up to try new golf clubs, I gave is unique putter a test run on the putting green.

The first two images of the Perwhit putter is the club I tried. The last as a left-handed club used by Ben during the match. It is there for display purposes only.

The hickory shafted Perwhit putter is a unique design. The circular design offers a small contact point that promotes a clean release of the ball towards its target line. The club was heavy in my hands, but that did not result in the loss of feel when putting. The handle design was interesting as Ben tried to replicate the fat grips of modern clubs with the hickory shaft, which I think is a great feature. With the unique design, I needed to find the perfect position of the ball in my stance to promote the solid contact this club provides. If my balls was too far forward or behind of the perfect spot, my ball had a tendency to hop off the club. This minor adjustment was accomplished in four strokes; not an arduous task. Overall, I found this new club design very interesting and fun to hit. Thanks Ben for letting me try your unique hickory shafted putter.

Golf is meant to be fun. Creating new experiences is always a plus for me. Trying the Perwhit putter was a great experience. As I venture down my hickory stick path, I expect that I will have the opportunity to try other clubs, golf courses, and meet new friends. Combining all of these fun things, I am grateful for my new golf journey.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
