Are you making these mistakes?
Here are 5 Things that sabotage your consistency in golf – the last one is huge for average golfers!

Face To Path
Do you tend to shape the shot a lot?
A little curvature is not an issue. And pros all tend to have a shape to their shots (draw or fade). However, it has been shown in data that pros have a smaller curvature (as a percentage of total distance hit).
This is because their face and path are more aligned.
While the above image might produce an on-line shot, the path and face are very separated.
Why is this an issue?
Well, not only can you lose efficiency (loss of distance), but
Direction will be more variable into vs downwind
Different clubs will produce different outcomes e.g. a wedge might pull, and a driver would slice with the same above face/path presentation
Different strikes will produce different results – as friction changes, the amount of curvature and start directions will change
This is why I tend to get golfers to work towards a reasonably neutral path.
Low Point
I’ve mentioned this many times but, if the low point of your golf swing is too far behind the ball, you are more susceptible to error.
In this image, we see a low point (black line) that is behind the ball.
We all have some vertical variance in our swings (arc depth). In other words, some times we drop a little deeper than normal, and other times we can enter a touch higher.
However, when the low-point of your swing is in behind the ball, you will be much more prone to chunks/thins for the same errors that a pro will get away with.
Aggressive Targets
We all have some dispersion left/right/long/short
Selecting a target that allows for more of your dispersion cycle to hit the green is a golden ticket to lower scores. Pin-hunters will not usually make more birdies, but will make far more bogeys.
In the below scenario, you’d actually be better off (mathematically modeling) aiming of the blue star vs the flag.
You Can’t Change!
Part of consistency is, ironically, the ability to CHANGE.
For example, when I notice a negative pattern creep in, I not only know how to change it, but I can do so in precise amounts.
In my studies, players who practice hitting toe and heel intentionally are more consistent at hitting the sweet spot Vs those who only practice hitting the sweet spot.
Completely counter-intuitive!
You Don’t Know
Probably the biggest issue I see with amateurs on the course is they don’t know WHAT to change.
They hit a bad shot and haven’t got a clue what went wrong.
For example, they might pull hook one left, then try to swing more in to out to fix it.
This is a problem because
- All we know with a pull hook is that the FACE is very closed. A pull hook can actually be hit with a square, or even in-to-out path
- Swinging more right will tend to make the ball hook even more!
- Swinging more right can change low point, thus affecting ground contact too
Become More Consistent
While everyone else is letting their golf game root this winter, what if YOU were different?
What if you put some effort into actually improving this winter? Even the smallest amount of work, with the right information, can mean you enter the 2025 season starting from a higher level than you left it.
Imagine having
- the ability to to fix any fault that occurs
- being more consistent
- being in full control of what you’re doing – no more guessing
- having your entire season/practice planned
- learning the most unique information on skill-development for golf available
- Being able to interact LIVE with me, so I can answer any question you have
Well, if that sounds like something you’d want to be part of, check out my Winter-8-week course STARTING 3rd NOVEMBER 2024.
Hurry – I won’t be doing another until summer 2025!
