Using A Table Top To Chip A Golf Ball

By admin Oct7,2024

There are many (overwhelming so) chipping techniques offered on the internet. Sifting through all the different nuances can be a challenge. I know I get overwhelmed from time to time, but I continue to seek out helpful tips for the readers at The Grateful Golfer golf blog. Today is no different. Danny Maude provides a simple, repeatable and controllable chipping process that will benefit most aspiring golfers. He talks about using a table top to help set the conditions for great chipping!

The distance Maude chose to address is from around 50 yards. Shot scope (according to the video) suggest that this distance is the most challenging for amateur players. I would have to agree because we are usually in between clubs and distances. Therefore, having a simple process to address this distance challenge can only be helpful for our short game.

What I like best about what Danny espouses is the quieting of the body during the chipping stroke. ‘Tightening the screws’ is a great analogy because it limits the potential for extra body movements causing wayward shots.

When I was golfing with my friend Len a few weeks back, he used this technique very well. His chipping movements was tight and very controlled. I was a bit less so, however now that I witnesses the potential advantages from Len and after watching the video, I do need to tighten my screws during my chipping. If find it interesting that after all these years I can still find something to improve my game that will help lower my golf scores.

Chipping can be a difficult skill to master in golf. If we take the time to find the process that works best for us than amazing things can happen. I think using Maude’s technique is a great place to start. I will be tightening my screws next time I hit the links and on the practice area.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
