Golf Season Is So Close!

Yesterday, I paid for my membership at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort. I have been a member of this course for a few years and I am still loving to play this nine hole track. It offers some challenges, chances to shoot low, but most of all the people are fun to play a round with regardless of the time. The weather is starting to chance and we are looking at some high teens this week. That will remove most of the snow and dry out the playing area. After talking to Mike, GM at the course, he is remise to forecast when the course will be open and I respect him not blinking first. Regardless, we are so close to playing golf in my area.

The challenge of waiting for golf season to start is my desire to hit golf balls. I will be chipping in my yard as per years past and this year I will have an area to hit full wedges. This is a great start to my game and with the warmer weather on the way, practicing my short game should be easy.

As you can see, I chip for distance. I try to land the ball at the 25 yard mark after starting at 10 yards. I use a progressive 5 yard distance moving backward to 25 yards. That is as far as I to as a wild ball could get too close to the house.

In my back yard, I have a distance of 100 yards I can use to chip balls as I wait for the course to open. At this time, half of the area is very wet and not usable. I am hoping that with the warmer, sunny weather on the way, this quasi swimming pool will dry up enough to start chipping balls. I realize that this is a minor inconvenience, however it is still something I have to manage.

Putting becomes a different challenge. Like many golfers, I do putt in my basement. This exercise is more to practice my putting stroke vice feel for distance. I also have a putting aid I like to use in the offseason that reminds me of the proper body position when putting. I like the Eye Line putting aid and find it works for my game.

I do not putt much in my basement as I do really like the feel I gain from putting on a rug. I do like working on my body position, so putting in the basement it is for now. When the course opens, I will spend a fair bit of time putting and chipping in order to hone my game.

With golf season around the corner, it is time to start stretching out my joints. I do some stretching over the winter, but never enough. As I age, being proactive with my stretching and strength conditioning is very important. I guess I will have to worry about that during the next offseason. For now, it is time to focus on the present in order to be ready for opening day at my golf course.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
