There’s another new zero torque putter on the market, with the TaylorMade Spider ZT Putter becoming the latest option in a growing trend for the golf equipment world.
The idea behind zero torque putters is that there is much less twisting of the head and face during the stroke. This allows the face to stay squarer to the target line throughout the putt. The result is more consistent distance control and dispersion.
This has been popular with a number of amateur and professional golfers over the last couple of years, with the likes of Odyssey, PXG and LAB Golf all offering zero torque options.
Interestingly though, Viktor Hovland is the only player in the Top 20 in the world rankings who has used a zero torque putter in competition. So perhaps it appeals to players who are looking for something different to help their game.

TaylorMade Spider ZT Putter
TaylorMade combined all the best technologies from the hugely popular Spider range with zero torque properties in one Spider ZT package.
The putters have a multi-material construction – stainless steel in the face, aluminium in the back. Extra weight in the perimeter helps to raise MOI, providing extra stability.
Three strategically placed weights help to position the CG in the correct location, helping the head to maintain a toe-up position.
TaylorMade’s engineers positioned the CG 25mm behind the face – closer than most competitors. This allowed them to insert the shaft directly in line with the CG, with 1 degree of onset.
This helps to minimise the amount of twist in the face during the stroke. It also gives some pre-set shaft lean at address to stop golfers adding loft at impact.
A heel-to-toe cambered sole is better suited to a wide range of setups. The design specifically matches the hosel configuration.
It allows golfers to sole and aim the putter more consistently, and deliver to the same position at impact.
Spider ZT also sees an update to the True Path alignment. It now features thinly milled lines on the top of the face which are evenly spaced, adding up to the exact width of a golf ball.
As with previous Spider putters, you get the Pure Roll insert. This features grooves which are angled at 45 degrees to promote forward roll, enhancing sound and feel.
The new Spider ZT also sees an update to the Spider logo and scripting. There’s a new anodised blue sole and updated SuperStroke grip.
