Jon Rahm is on hand to defend his U.S. Open title at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., but all anyone can seem to talk about is the upstart LIV Golf series.
The Saudi-backed start-up held its first event last weekend. Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters champion, won it and took home the $4 million winner’s share. Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson played in the tournament, and Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed and Rickie Fowler are set to join them moving forward. That created distractions ahead of golf’s third major of 2022.
Nonetheless, Rahm is staying focused on the task at hand. After all, he is defending his title against a stacked field that includes 29 of the top 30 players in the world. The only one in the top 30 who isn’t playing is Paul Casey, who has had to deal with back problems for the majority of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season.

Rahm. the No. 2 golfer in the world, will face stiff competition from the likes of Rory McIlroy who is coming off a strong week at the RBC Canadian Open.
Elsewhere, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will look to capture his second major win of the season. Scheffler won the Masters in April. Mickelson will also play in this week’s event as he looks to complete the career Grand Slam with a U.S. Open title. (UPDATE: He missed the cut Friday.)
This week marks Mickelson’s first involvement with the PGA Tour since January. The U.S. Open is governed by the USGA, but it is also considered a part of the PGA Tour as well as the European and Asian Tours. Mickelson has drawn plenty of attention for his remarks about LIV Golf, and it will be interesting to see if the verbal fireworks spill over onto the golf course.

NBC and the USA Network will combine to broadcast the 2022 U.S. Open. USA is hosting the morning coverage for the NBC family of networks on Thursday, Friday and Sunday while NBC will broadcast the afternoon coverage all four days of the tournament.
The U.S. Open can be streamed using a few different options. They include Peacock, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports App, all of which will have exclusive coverage at the beginning and end of each day of competition.
Additionally, USOpen.com and Peacock will also provide morning and afternoon group coverage, as well as live hole coverage on Holes 11,12 and 13, each day of competition. Another option is fuboTV, which will stream coverage that airs on NBC and USA Network.
