Koepka fires 7-under 64 to lead LIV Singapore

By admin May9,2024

Brooks Koepka, looking for his fourth victory on the LIV Golf circuit, shot a 7-under 64 on Saturday to lead by three strokes after the second round in Singapore.

Rain delayed the start of play by several hours in steamy Singapore with the round finishing near dusk.

“I just chilled,” said Koepka, who was at 12-under overall at the Sentosa Golf Club. “We were all talking, watching some of the hockey, some of the basketball. That’s what I would do anyway if I was having some chill time anyway. Just worked out, and it was kind of nice to watch some of that.”

Four players were three strokes behind: Abraham Ancer (67), Matthew Wolff (65), Thomas Pieters (67) and Adrian Meronk (66). Four more were four strokes behind Koepka heading into Sunday’s closing round.

Defending champion Talor Gooch, who is among the group four back, said it was “hard” but “not impossible” to catch Koepka when he has a lead entering the final round of the tournament.

“You’ve got to play some dang good golf,” Gooch said. “But if you are playing good, as he’s done and as others have done, you can make some birdies and get it going. Winning golf tournaments is never easy. We all know that. Hopefully we can make it not easy on him — hopefully I can make it not easy on him tomorrow.”

Jon Rahm, who has yet to win after joining LIV in December, was seven strokes off the pace after a 68. Rahm is the only player to have finished in the top 10 in all six events in 2024.

In the team competition, Koepka and Gooch have helped Smash GC claim a one-stroke lead over Ripper GC and two-shot edge over RangeGoats GC.

The next LIV tournament is June 7-9 in Houston.
