By admin May31,2024

Scottie Scheffler rang in fatherhood with a bang Thursday at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler eagled his first hole at the event at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. It was also his first hole since his newborn son Bennett was born on May 8. Scheffler connected on his first hole from 167 yards out to pick up the eagle to start his day.

Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, has won four of his last five tournaments, including the Master’s Tournament at Augusta National. Of note, he said he would have left the tournament had his wife, Meredith, gone into labor during the weekend in Augusta, Georgia.

Scottie Scheffler’s previous best finish at PGA Championship

Scheffler got off to a great start with the eagle at the PGA Championship after taking the Wells Fargo Championship off last week for the birth of his son. The last time the PGA Championship was played at Valhalla Golf Club, Scheffler played one hole as an amateur. He turned pro in 2018.

He finished tied for fourth in his first PGA Championship appearance in 2020 and tied for eighth in 2021. He missed the cut in 2022 and finished with his best finish last year at second at 7-under par in a tie with Viktor Hovland. He was two shots behind winner Brooks Koepka.
